Christmas Vacation: Christmas Vacation will begin at noon today. School will be closed for the next two weeks and also on Monday, January 2. Classes will resume again on Tuesday, January 3. We want to wish all a safe and happy vacation and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Christmas Program Thank you: As a staff we want to express our thanks to our students, parents, Mrs. Marte, and to all that helped make our program go so well this past Sabbath. Thank you for your support and assistance. We appreciate the team effort that many put forth to make our day successful.
Citrus Fruit: The citrus fruit truck will arrive Saturday evening and we will unload the fruit at 5:00 p.m. We welcome many hands to help make the unloading job go faster. Our citrus fruit sale will be on Sunday, December 18, from 10-3. We will have Florida navels, ruby-red grapefruit, and tangerines for sale. Also there will be a wide variety of nuts, dried fruit, and candies for sale.
1st & 2nd Grade Spelling Bee Winners: November - Connor Kocian, December - Shasta Holler. Congratulations!
Welcome To Our New Students: We welcome our new students, Sophia Fainano, a first grader and Kyra German in Pre-School. We are so happy that you both are at Rocky Knoll!
Basketball: Rocky Knoll Comets had their first basketball game this past Monday evening, playing Mt. Aetna School. The kids played a good game, but came up on the short end of the stick losing 49 to 42. Their next game is Thursday, January 19, with the Upward league. Grades 1-3 will play at 5 pm and at 6:00 pm the Upward Game will begin.
Miles Logged: This past week we logged an additional 180 miles. Our school group is now in Fearnley, NV. The total miles logged are 2619.
8th Grade Pizza Hot Lunch: The 8th grade class will sell pizza on Thursday. Order forms should be turned in, along with exact payment, on Thursday morning. Drinks and snacks will be sold on a daily basis for 50 cents each.
Close of First Semester: The first semester of the school year closes on Friday, January 13. Report cards should be issued by Thursday, January 19. We do not do parent/teacher conferences unless there is a special need. If you would like to request a conference with your child’s teacher, please take the initiative to check with the teacher, so that the conference can be arranged.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: There will be no school on Monday, January 16, in observance of Martins Luther King, Jr. Day.

Basketball: This week we had two basketball games. We won both! On Monday we played the Avalanche. Then we played the Shooting Stars. It was fun and challenging. We got better than last year. We hope to do better. Go COMETS! By Milan Pino
Next week our team will play Upward on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. Players should arrive at 4:30 for warm up and practice. On Thursday there will be a game at 4:30 p.m. with Atholton at the Frederick SDA School. Players will leave shortly after dismissal. Winter Festival: Tomorrow evening from 6:30-9:00 p.m. we will have our Winter Festival here at the school. Please come and be prepared to have a fun time. Bring your children and your friends. The Winter Festival is an activity night and is a fund raiser for our Home & School Organization. There will be a charge of $5.00 per person for those who would like to play games. There will also be food for sale, and music for all to enjoy. Gifted Hands: The TNT Network will present a made for TV movie on the story of Dr. Ben Carson on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 8:00 p.m. Dr. Carson is a member of the Spencerville SDA Church in the Chesapeake Conference. He is the chief physician of neurosurgery at John’s Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Unfortunately, this TV story conflicts with our Winter Festival. You may want to set your VCR so that you can watch the program another time. We plan to tape it here at the school, and we will be happy to loan the tape out to anyone who would like to see it.Mrs. Unger’s Hot Lunch: Mrs. Unger will serve a hot lunch next Wednesday, February 11, for $3.00. Your child should have received an order form today. Please return the order form and payment on Monday, February 9. The menu is as follows: Hot Dogs, French Fries, Green Beans, Dessert, and Drink.8th Grade Hot Lunch: The 8th grade class will be selling pizza, salad, and drink next Thursday for the standard prices. Snacks are available on a daily basis.Dress Down Friday: Next Friday, February 13, will be a Dress Down Day. Students can wear jeans and t-shirts. T-shirt messages must be in harmony with the school’s philosophy. We are requesting students bring in a can of food as a donation on days that we have Dress Down Days. So, if your child would like to dress down on Friday, Feb. 13, there is a charge and that is to bring a can of food that will be put in the church’s pantry. It will be used to feed families which are struggling with our current economic crisis.Presidents’ Day: There will be no school on Monday, February 16, for Presidents’ Day.Midterm Grade Reports: We have completed nearly three weeks since the close of our semester. Midterm grade reports will be issued on Friday, February 20. Teachers’ In-service: On Tuesday, February 24, we will dismiss at noon for teachers’ meetings. No lunches will be needed on this day. There will be no After School Care on this day. Citrus Fruit Orders: Our next citrus fruit sale will be March 1, from 10-3. We will have California navels, temples, tangerines, and grapefruit available. Please place your order by Feb. 20 by calling 264-5975.Box Tops: The Box Tops will be collected next week, so be sure to turn them in to your child’s classroom.Applications for Next Year: We want to thank those who have already begun the application process for next year. We are now accepting applications for new students and we are encouraging our families to apply early. By applying early you can be assured that your child will have a spot for next school year.
