Bits and Pieces

March 5, 2010

Mid Term Grades: Mid term grade reports should have come home with your child today. If you have not received a copy of your child’s midterm grade report, please check with your child’s teacher. Also, because of the snow days these reports are coming to you late. The third grading period ends on Friday, March 19.

Citrus Fruit Sale: Our March citrus sale is this Sunday, from 10-3. You will want to arrive early if you forgot to place an order. Our extras are very limited this month.

Thank You: The staff would like to thank Chemutai Kemboi for doing "Bits and Pieces" last week when Mrs. Harris was out. Also, a big thanks to Carol Hambright for filling in for Mrs. Harris when needed.

Lunches: Please make sure lunches are put in microwave-able containers. Please try to have them ready to go in the microwave for no more than 2 minutes.

Fevers: 98.6 is the normal temperature. If your child has a temperature above 98.6, he or she has a fever. A child should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.

Spring Week of Spiritual Emphasis: Next week will be our Spring Week of Prayer. Our speaker will be Pastor Alvin Payne, the Youth Pastor from the Frederick SDA Church. Pastor Payne will speak to our students each morning at 10:30 a.m.

Mrs. Unger’s Hot Lunch: Next Wednesday, March 10, a hot lunch will be prepared by Mrs. Unger. The cost is $3.00. An order form was sent home today. Please return the order form and payment on Monday, March 8. Please write checks to Judy Unger.

The menu is as follows: Spaghetti, Corn, Caesar Salad, Dessert, and Drink.

Stamp Club: There will be a stamp club meeting next Wednesday from 3:15 until 4:15.

Jump Rope for Heart: Our students will be participating in a fund raising effort for the American Heart Association called Jump Rope for Heart on Thursday, March 25. In the meantime students will be bringing home brochures with information about this fund raising campaign. We are encouraging all of our students to participate in this service project. All proceeds go toward research for the American Heart Association.

Basketball: Our Rocky Knoll Comets had three games this week. On Monday and Tuesday we played Upward games and were victorious in both. On Wednesday the Comets had their second game with Frederick SDA School and lost by 10 points, 67 to 57. This was an exciting game with our kids tying the game on more than one occasion, but never able to get ahead. Way to go Comets! We are proud of you! Next week there will be an Upward game on Tuesday, beginning at 6 p.m. On Wednesday the Comets will play Mt. Aetna beginning at 4 p.m. and on Thursday there will be a game with Atholton at 4:00 p.m. All games will be played here. Come out and cheer our team on!

8th Grade Pizza Hot Lunch: The 8th grade class will sell pizza on Thursday, March 11, for the standard prices. Snacks are sold daily for 50 cents each.

Daylight Savings Time: We are only one week away from Daylight Savings Time. This means that on Monday, March 15, we will all be rising one hour earlier and coming to school one hour earlier. Be sure to set your clocks forward so that your children get to school on time.

Rocky Knoll Invitational Basketball Tournament: On Sunday, March 21, our annual Rocky Knoll Basketball Tournament will take place at Highland View Academy and Mount Aetna gyms. This is a big basketball day and we will be in need of help in a variety of ways. If you can assist with gate fee collections, helping with the snack bar, or keeping a score book, please check with Mrs. Harris or Mr. Walker. Time donated during the tournament can be used as part of your volunteer hours. Again, we need lots of help to cover all of our bases on this day. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Spring Break: With the close of school on Friday, March 26, we will begin our Spring Break. Spring Break will run through the following week. Classes will resume on Monday, April 5 at 8:00 a.m.

Wanted: In-line skates (women’s size 5), and a futon. Call Janette at (304) 283-7046.
