Bits and Pieces

May 21, 2010

Congratulations: We want to congratulate Milan Pino for winning the award in The Journal’s 21st Annual Design-An-Ad Contest. Great job Milan!

Kindergarten Graduation: The Kindergarten class will graduate this Sunday, May 23, at 2:00 p.m. at the Martinsburg SDA Church Fellowship Hall.

8th Grade Graduation: The 8th grade class will graduate this coming Wednesday night, May 26, at 7:00 p.m. at the Martinsburg SDA Church. Our graduates are Carl Hackett, Cassondra Harris, and Andrew Ramsey. All of our students will be participating in a group song, so we ask that families plan to have their children there for the graduation. Also, our upper grade students will be performing the hand chimes. Our guest speaker will be Alvin Payne, youth pastor from the Frederick SDA Church. We appreciate your efforts to be there to support our 8th grade class on their special night.

Pre-K Graduation: Next Friday morning during the chapel service we will have the Pre-K graduation. We encourage parents to stay for this special program.

7th Grade Hot Lunch: The 7th grade class will sell pizza on Thursday, May 27, for the standard prices. Snacks are sold daily for 50 cents each.

Volunteer Hours: If you are in need of getting a few more volunteer hours, there are some jobs which will need to be maintained over the summer. Our flower gardens will need to be weeded on a regular basis. Also, the hillside outside of Mrs. Walker’s room

in front of the little house will need to be weed whacked on a number of occasions. If you are available to do these jobs and you need to finish out your volunteer hours, this would be a great way to do so. There may be a need for other outdoor jobs over the summer, so if you need hours, please check with either Mr. Walker or Mrs. Harris.

Report Cards: Report cards are not sent home on the final day of school. Within a week after the close of school you should receive your child’s report card. If you have a past due balance with the school, report cards will be held until your balance is paid.

Applications for Next Year: The end of this school year is coming rapidly. We have 5 days remaining of school. As we approach the end of school, we want to remind you that if you have not submitted your application for the coming school year, we would encourage you to do so. By applying early you can guarantee a spot for your child. A $25 deposit toward the registration fee should be included with your application. Early applications help us in our planning for the coming school year. Also, if you have any balance remaining on your school bill, you will want to get that paid before the close of the school year as well.

Last Day of School: The final day of school will be Friday, May 28. Our Friday schedule consists of chapel, which will include our pre-kindergarten graduation, followed by an awards program for our students. Parents are encouraged to stay for the entire program. School will dismiss when the program is over at 10:00 a.m. There will be no After School Care on this day. We want to wish all of you a happy, safe summer, and we look forward to serving you again in August.

Mid Summer Newsletter: Be sure to watch mid summer for a packet of information which will be sent to you from the school. "Bits and Pieces" is not done over the summer, but we do a mid summer newsletter. It is usually sent by the second week of July to keep you posted on coming events.

Registration: Registration for the new school year will be on Wednesday, August 4, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Mrs. Harris has handed out registration packets to families who have indicated that they are planning to have their children return. We encourage you to fill out the forms early and bring them with you to registration on August 4. This will speed up the registration process for you. Also, on registration day, as we have done in the past we will have the free corn roast dinner from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

ET Auto Sales & Service: ET Auto Sales & Service is opening up a new facility at 301 Wilson Street in Martinsburg. This company sells cars and does all types of repairs on vehicles. The phone number at ET Auto Sales is 304-267-0330. A portion of all sales and service will be donated to Rocky Knoll School. Tell your family, friends, and neighbors about this new opportunity to help our school.
